Not-For-Profit
Charitable Purposes

The SILJA Living Foundation’s charitable purposes are to advance, for the public benefit in Australia: the natural environment; social or public welfare, including the relief of poverty and necessitous circumstances; and education

The SILJA Living Foundation may undertake any of the following activities, with all surpluses applied solely to advancing its charitable purposes:

  1. Advance the natural environment as a principal purpose through projects that conserve rainforests and natural habitats; promote biodiversity; eradicate invasive species; and provide public access and educational opportunities to foster understanding of conservation, indigenous plants and animals, and the critical role of ecosystem services for future generations

  2. Advance EcoVillage development by enabling sustainable long-term financing; comprehensive master planning; and property management services. These efforts may include incubation support, seed funding, and Program-Related Investments in EcoVillage initiatives

  3. Advance a build-to-rent model that delivers affordable, secure, long-term, and inclusive living solutions for residents from all walks of life. This would alleviate poverty and housing insecurity, relieve necessitous circumstances or distress for those in low-income households, facing housing insecurity, or requiring support due to age or other vulnerabilities, benefiting the broader community

  4. Advance best practices in developing and constructing sustainable, self-sufficient EcoVillages, including through ecosystem services and rehabilitation; training programs; and publication of research and educational materials on sustainability and ecosystem conservation
